The 2024 Annual Dinner continued the proud tradition of recognising sporting excellence and community service within the Sikh Sports Association Leicestershire.
This special evening celebrated athletes, volunteers, coaches and long-standing contributors who have helped build a legacy of sportsmanship, resilience and unity across generations.
The gathering served as a powerful reminder that sport within the Sikh community is more than competition.
It is a bridge between generations, a platform for cultural pride, and a vehicle for discipline, teamwork and collective growth.
A special highlight of the night was the presentation of the Life Time Achievement Awards, honouring individuals whose commitment to sport and community has left a lasting legacy.
Surjit Singh (Pasla) was recognised for his decades of dedication to athletics, football, and kabaddi, both in Punjab and in the United Kingdom. A passionate sportsman and community supporter, he has represented at Masters level internationally and played a significant role in mentoring younger generations and supporting grassroots sports development within the community.
Ajmer Singh Minhas (Fauji) was recognised for his dedicated service and valuable contribution to sport within the Sikh community. Through years of active involvement and voluntary support, he has helped promote traditional Punjabi sports while encouraging participation and unity across generations. His award acknowledges his consistent commitment to strengthening community sport and preserving its cultural heritage.
Ajaib Singh Matharu was recognised for his decades of dedication to athletics, football, and kabaddi, both in Punjab and in the United Kingdom. A passionate sportsman and community supporter, he has represented at Masters level internationally and played a significant role in mentoring younger generations and supporting grassroots sports development within the community.
Avtar Singh Hanspal was honoured for his dedicated contribution and longstanding service to sport. Through his commitment, leadership, and support of community initiatives, he has played an important role in strengthening participation and preserving the spirit of Sikh sporting tradition in Leicestershire. His recognition reflects the Association’s appreciation for individuals whose steady efforts continue to inspire and uplift the community.
